Since her polarizing debut singles “Okay Cupid” and “Orion’s Belt” hit YouTube in 2012, Kitty’s bedroom-pop releases have painted neon-colored pictures of her hometown in Daytona Beach, Florida. Her debut full-length album Miami Garden Club is no different; from it’s haunting title track to it’s sassy closing anthem “Drink Tickets”, the thirteen-track album is a satisfying rifle through the diary of a stir-crazy teenage girl desperate to escape the muggy heat of Central Florida.
Funded by a successful Kickstarter campaign in 2015, Miami Garden Club is Kitty’s most cohesive release to date, as well as her first release to feature songs produced entirely by Kitty herself. The record also features production from Lazerdisk, funk guitarist and longtime collaborator Pat Lukens, rapper DVS, and Kitty’s husband Sam Ray (aka Teen Suicide/Ricky Eat Acid).
Sam Ray is the frontman for Teen Suicide, an emo-charged noise punk outfit from Baltimore, Maryland. The band’s sophomore LP, It’s the Big Joyous Celebration, Let’s Stir the Honeypot, arrived in April 2016. He also founded the esoteric project Ricky Eat Acid, whose output is comprised of drony soundscapes.
